Is there an easy way to stop smoking?
Cigarette smoking, both first hand and second hand, is one of the leading causes of lung cancer and yet many people are still hooked with this addiction. In fact if you ask around most people will admit that they have tried smoking at least once in their lives. This is despite various campaigns against smoking and warnings cum reminders on all cigarette packaging and marketing campaigns.
There are many reasons why people get into the habit of cigarette smoking. Exposure to people who are smokers would most likely influence a non-smoker to get into the habit as well. This is why most children of smokers also grow up as smokers but there are also cases wherein the children vow to never smoke because they have seen the disastrous effect of smoking to a parent. Easy access to cigarettes will also increase the chances of a person picking up a cigarette that will eventually lead to keeping the habit.
This is true for non-smokers who work in cigarette companies. It would be so hard to ignore something you are constantly exposed to especially when it is in every corner in the office available for free and always in your mind because you have to have ideas for the product. People who are consistently exposed to high stress situations whether in their jobs, school or personal life say that smoking helps them cope.
Add to that, they say, the cold temperature in most areas because of air condition systems then cigarette breaks will not surprisingly be a part of the daily schedule of their lives. There are also those who give in to peer pressure, the “because everyone else is doing it” mentality ranks high among teenagers as a kick-off reason for smoking. Some people also say that they are only do social smoking which is essentially the same as social drinking meaning smoking only on gatherings or when around people. Still there are others who become smokers because they are simply bored with their lives.
It seems to be so easy to get hooked on cigarette smoking but is there an easy way to stop smoking? The obvious answer is no for as they say old habits die hard but this does not mean that one cannot stop smoking it just means that it will not be easy. The first step to killing a bad habit is to admit that you are indeed addicted to a bad habit. After admitting then you can start working on slowly withdrawing the habit. Without being so dramatic about it, any one who needs to get over an addiction should have a support group.
This posse should keep a watchful an eye on you but without judging you, these are the people you turn to when you feel like you are about to slack or cheat. However it is best to keep in mind that this is all about the smoker so a smoker has to be strong in her resolve to stop smoking. The entire process is usually long, lucky few can get over it shorter but there will always be that danger of going back so for smokers to stop smoking is a lifetime commitment.
So back to the question is there an easy way to stop smoking? There is none but think long and hard why you smoke and if you feel like there are other alternative ways to deal with the causes of your smoking then choose that over cigarette smoking. The best thing is to divert your energy doing a bad habit to doing a good new habit.
