Let’s face it, smoking is a pretty expensive habit. In fact, you can probably buy yourself a great vacation in the Caribbean with everything that you have spent in cigarettes. Quitting smoking will not only save you much in terms of what you will spend buying cigarettes but also what you will spend in the future paying for you medical bills. Remember that smoking has a lot of health-related dangers. If you are not worried of the few dollars that you spend for a pack of cigarettes, maybe you can get worried with the thousands of dollars that you will spend in hospitalization fees and medications.
2. Longer life span
Smoking is related to a number of health problems that you cannot even count. Primary of this is of course cancer as cigarettes are known to be carcinogenic. Smoking is also known to weaken the lungs and makes one susceptible to tuberculosis as well as other respiratory diseases. In addition, it can also lead to reduced fertility and emphysema. Risks for heart attack and strokes are also increased in smokers compared to non-smokers. They are also more likely to develop damaged taste buds, gangrene and amputation.
3. Unkempt appearance
Smoking does not only damage the lungs, the heart and most parts of the internal body system, it also affects the external parts. Nicotine can lead to a dull skin. The teeth are often stained with black and brown spots. The same goes with the fingers and the fingernails. Smokers are also more prone to aging as the skin is badly affected by the smoke. Another bad effect of smoking is of course the smoke odor that clings to the clothes of the smoker.
4. Mental effects
Smoking can lead to reduced concentration as the nicotine slows down the mental processes. There is also a significant lack of energy and listlessness both physically and mentally. They are also most likely to look tired and to appear listless in company meetings.
5. Social consequences
Although smokers are not necessarily ostracized in societies, they are nevertheless avoided by some groups of people because of the effects that the smoking will have on their bodies. For instance, pregnant women will most likely avoid people who smoke because it can affect their babies. Smokers are also avoided because of the way their smoke can irritate the eyes.
